Rules & Regulation

Game Rules

    • Serve: The serve must start from behind the server’s end of the table, and the ball must be tossed vertically at least six inches before being struck. The serve should be diagonal, crossing over the net and landing on the opponent’s side of the table.
    • Double Bounce Rule: After the serve, both the server and the receiver must allow the ball to bounce on their side of the table once before returning it. Once the ball has bounced on each side, players can hit it before it bounces again.
    • Scoring: A point is awarded to the player or team that successfully completes a rally, with each game played up to 11 points. If the score reaches 10-10, players continue until one player gains a two-point advantage to win the game.
    • Change of Ends: Players switch sides of the table after each game in a match, and they also switch sides when the total point count in a game reaches an even number in the final game.
    • Touching the Table: Players must not touch the table with their free hand or lean on it during play. Only the racket hand should touch the table surface.
    • Let Serve: If the ball hits the net but still lands in the correct service area on the opponent’s side, it is called a “let” serve, and the server gets to serve again without penalty.
    • Double Hit: It is illegal to hit the ball twice in succession with the same side of the racket, resulting in a point for the opponent.
    • Out of Bounds: If the ball fails to land on the opponent’s side of the table, hits the net and doesn’t go over, or touches any part of the surrounding equipment or surrounding area, it is considered out of bounds and results in a point for the opponent.
    • Time Limit Between Points: There is typically a time limit between points (usually 10 seconds) to ensure the game progresses smoothly.
    • Let Rule: If a point is hindered due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., ball falls off the table or a distraction), players can request a “let” and replay the point.
